Summertime

It's been a long time since I posted my last tune, but don't be afraid, that does not mean that I have given up...it is only that I was taking a little break.

The song I am posting today is one of those Gerswhin's well-known jazz classics which have been played by almost every jazz musician since long ago but, nevertheless, still sound fresh and are interesting to play: Summertime.

It's only two minutes long but full of nice licks and, most of all, fun. I hope you like it.

I'd like to dedicate this to my good friend Guillermo Chaminade, who encouraged me to keep on recording all these cover versions. When someone likes what you play, why stopping doing it?

If you want to compare, here are some other very different (amateur) versions that I found in YouTube. Compare them with mine and tell me which one you like the most. And if you want to listen to a really good one, try Ella's. Simply unsurpassable.

Hi Victor,

puedo comprender Espanol un poce, pues ecribar...no, English is much better for me. I'm a member of an international group of collectors of recordings of Summertime and it has taken us a relatively long time to find your recording.

At first I thought that the co-collector who uploaded your recording had made a mistake, as I could only find a Victor Olaiya (a ghanese guitarist), but know I've seen the source you and him are two different persons. I like your ST pretty much, you got a 2 on the scale of 1 to 8 (horrible) I use to classify the recordings. Yours is far better than most of the recordings one can find on Youtube. Much more profession, with a nice swing and good licks.

Could you pls tell me your nationality?
More about us on: http://members.home.nl/summertime/
Yours is number 7,636 in our collection of full recordings.

Hope to hear from you,
